chirp chirp

i have had a serious urge to nest lately. i am so excited we are moving into our little house this weekend. i am anxious to get into our place so that we can get everything ready for the bean's arrival. i am usually a basketcase in the days leading up to a move. this time it is so different, probably because it is a local move and because we just did it. or more likely because i am basically not lifting a finger. at this point my belly is too big for me to do anything worthwhile, and i also figure i kind of earned a free pass on this one. it is going to be awesome to order the movers around and not have to do it myself!

i am a little sad that we have to rent first, then move again when we buy. we were looking at houses hardcore when we first arrived - going out every sunday, nights after work, scouring mls listings, but we decided it was best to rent for 6 months instead and watch the market. we have heard that things will only get better for buyers in 2007, so i am confident we will get something we are really happy with. the house we are renting is in one of the 'hoods we'd consider living in, so i think it will be a good move for us until we find something we love.

when i was telling people at work where we were looking (willo, f.q. story, del norte - all the downtown historics) two of them asked me if those areas were safe. i almost lauged in their faces. i guess they didn't spend the last year in columbia heights d.c., where there were people murdered one block away both the first week we moved in and the weekend before i left! being in phoenix, i honestly feel like i could walk down the street in the middle of the night, begging people to rob, violate, murder me, and i probably wouldn't have any takers. and going back to san francisco? forget it. realizing what i know now, i probably never would've even locked my front door. i guess it's all relative.

wish us (well, jim and the movers) luck! we'll invite you all over once we are in!
