the farm

i'm back from a weekend at my friend susanna's parents' farm in rural lebabon, pennsylvania. i can't tell you how much i needed this weekend and how wonderful it was to be out there. the countryside is absolutely breathtaking, and the gebhard farm is as well. the house is about 300 years old, surrounded by cornfields, a stream, and cows.

we relaxed, went to a real farmers' market, picked vegetables in her mom's garden, took long naps, ate whoopee pies made by amish ladies, went for walks, saw where susanna went to school and where she worked, played with her brother's golden retriever lois, ate homemade peach ice cream, went to the lake, saw pig races at the lebanon county fair, stalked some amish people on their way home from church, and basically chatted the weekend away.
