first glimpse

jim and i went to the dr. on wednesday and we saw the tadpole for the first time! not two tadpoles, as i was hoping so as to explain my fat belly, but just one singleton. it isn't much like a tadpole anymore - it has lost its tail by now (at least i hope it has). we will need to call it something else. right now it just resembles an alien. so the dr. said that everything looks good. she hooked me up to a machine and we saw two blobs for the body and head, two buds for arms, and a heartbeat! now that we saw a strong heartbeat, the chance of miscarriage is down to 5% and it will never go lower than that.

so start spreading the news! i need to fill all of my girls in. i have been so hesitant to tell them because i realized with each person i told, i got more and more excited about it. i didn't want to let people know until i actually saw it on the screen and knew it was ok. jim has been really excited about telling people. we've only been back at work for a day and a half and already everyone has come up to me to tell me congratulations. i think i am just relieved. i have been so worried about everything the last few weeks; i don't even know if i realized it. but seeing the blobs and the flickering heart beat and hearing that everything is perfect was really all i needed. the first glimpse of our baby k and i'm already in love.

Dear Cara Angel,

I'm so so thrilled for you both! I mean jumping up and down crying happy :). Luke and I can't wait to snuggle new little knappster.

Btw, my belly is huge and pudgy too (i'll be 12 wks on monday). I've resigned myself to the fact that everyone now looks at me and thinks - whoa, she needs to lay off the twinkies and pork rinds. Whatever, they'll all know what's up soon enough.

Love you!
