happy birthday, jim!

today jim turned 31. i guess we are officially old now. i have heard you don't really start your thirties until you turn 31, since turning 30 is a pretty big deal. we've kind of been joking about this "old" thing a lot lately. it seems like every time we hang out with friends, our conversations turn into something old people would talk about.

case in point: yesterday we went to a birthday party for some friends whose son was turning 2. jim and i realized that we have officially become suburban parental-types when we realized all we had talked about was glasses/contacts/poor vision, how good the fruit salad was, the fact that one of our friends had thrown his back out that day and wasn't going to make it to the party, and how much fun fantasy congress sounds. what have we become?

i guess we felt the need to reconnect with our inner children today, because after a nice brunch and nine holes of golf with jim's family, jim and i stopped by the old phx junior high hangout - castles and coasters. if you haven't experienced it before, think of an 80s miniature golf place, with indy cars, an arcade, a couple of rides, and all of the trashy people you can imagine. it had been quite some time since either of us had been, and i do not remember it the way we saw it today. i saw more teen moms, hickeys, lowriders, dirty kids, mullets, and gold chains than i ever thought possible in one place. it was awesome. we got our air hockey on (during which i was sure i'd go into labor), played pinball (as i received advice on losing baby weight by drinking slim fast from a 17? year-old mom), and walked around reminiscing over good times in junior high school. oh! and jim got the high score on one of his favorite video games... it was a good day.
