florida

we're back from vacation, and i am tired. you know when people say that they need a vacation from their vacation? i think that i know what that means now. whoever made up that phrase was probably on vacation with a 17-month-old; molar-growing; hand, foot, and mouth disease-incubating, really excited toddler.

don't get me wrong; it was AWESOME to be on vacation. we had a great time. it was really nice spending so much time with jim's family. it's been a while since we all went away together, and it was great to be able to bond with the new addition to the family (lisa's fiancee) and for them all to spend some quality time with soren. we had a good time at cousin laura's gorgeous wedding, and the beach was just perfect. plus, it's nice to know jim and i aren't the only ones who think soren is hilarious and just about the cutest thing to ever walk this earth. we laughed for hours about the craziest stuff. he is insane. and so funny.

but he is such a handful! right now all he wants to do is move. sitting is not an option. and the whole concept of things being ours vs. others', safe vs. dangerous, etc., just don't make sense to him. add in the fact that his molars are s-l-o-w-l-y busting through, the fact that we spent a night in the ER discovering that his white tongue, rash, and cold symptoms were the product of a very common baby virus, and the fact that he is normally a pretty scheduled little guy, and you have meltdown city. he was super pissed on numerous occasions. all in all, though, he is a fabulous traveler. he loved being on the plane, especially when he got the attention of the row(s) behind us. and he was such a trooper, when you think about how hard it is for those little guys to adapt to change, when they can't talk and can't totally understand what is going on.

even with the stressful moments, though, we came away with some pretty great memories. i think this photo pretty much sums soren up right about now. it was really hard to catch him for the pic; i had to run around the wedding just snapping before he did something so that i could hope to get something good. but i just love his face in it. that's my boy.

I love that he has two handfuls of food and he is on the hunt for more! :)
