happy 2008
i don't normally make new year's resolutions. i've always thought it kind of lame to have to make promises to yourself just because it happens to be the day after december 31. but i've been thinking about it a lot lately and i realize that i shouldn't fault or second guess people for actually trying to better themselves, regardless of the reason. if my neighbor really wants to stop eating chocolate, or stop swearing, or to be a better father, do i really care why she/he/they are doing it? at least those who make resolutions actually sit down for a minute to reflect upon the year and decide what they'd like to change. that takes a lot more guts than just going with the flow.
so i've decided to make some resolutions. i know if i put them in writing, i have more of a chance of following them. that said, i reserve the right to change/modify/cancel this list at any time. and if i can't or don't follow them, who cares? at least i've recognized where i need work.
in no particular order, my new year's resolutions:
1. read more. and no more home/baby/craft magazines. i am talking books.
2. go to the gym.
3. have a positive attitude at work. (now full time - more on that later).
4. keep in better touch with long-distance friends.
5. get involved in my community.
6. stop obsessing so much about getting the house exactly how i want it. we'll be there forever. i have time.
7. realize that sometimes things that are easy for me to do for others might mean a lot to them.
8. have patience.
9. let it go.
